GIMME SHELTER
People dream about finding their own piece of land, or discovering their ideal home, but I like to think that the land or home finds you. After completing a full house renovation in Brooklyn, our clients sought a country abode for family gatherings and relaxation. We looked at a few houses together, but nothing called to them. On a random walk a neighbor happened to show them a home for sale on a two acre lot, and it just felt right. A full scale renovation ensued. I’m thrilled to share the results with you.

From the beginning, it was clear that a dramatic, double-height dining room would be the center of the home. The addition of sliding doors on the entire back elevation not only connects indoor and outdoor living, but also invites in the breezes and plenty of light.

Botanical bounty from the garden.

The kitchen with its own casual eating/hangout space is connected to both the dining room and porch for ease of entertaining.

The large Quartz countertop on the Island is both durable and pretty.

An oval table allows for easy navigation and expands for larger gatherings. A sculptural and dramatic David Weeks chandelier draws the eye up.

An in-ground pool exudes a vacation vibe in this expansive back yard.

A pair of vintage John Woodward chairs scored from Brooklyn’s Holler & Squall sit poolside.

Cantaloupe-colored umbrellas announce “summer is here” and contrast nicely with the greenery of the surroundings.

The perfect porch for summer Rose. The swinging daybed doubles as extra sleeping space.
