NEW PRESS

I’m so honored to have my feng shui work recognized in the New York Cottages & Gardens November/December issue! Feng shui offers a way of coming into rhythm with all that surrounds you. It’s a building block for decoration and a foundation of my design work. Designing a home that is not only specifically tailored to a client’s needs and taste, but also organizes the flow and makes sense of the structure, is deeply satisfying. My work integrates people into their surroundings so they can live in harmonious alignment.

A perfect example is this project. The first step was to create Chinese birth charts aka Ba Tsu charts for the clients. These are energetic and elemental maps of people, providing vital information about the ideal environment for each person who lives in the home. These charts, along with the Lo Shu plan which identifies an ideal layout, provide clear direction for the placements of rooms, furnishings, lighting and a decorative palette. Designing this way leaves plenty of room for personal expression and embellishment.

Due to its location in the apartment, the library needed Fire Element to be in alignment with the direction of the main entry door. There are lots of ways to bring Fire or any element into a space, but the primary way is through color. Any shade of red or purple, including baby pink or lavender, hot pink or eggplant will activate Fire. The millwork was lacquered in a Pomegranate color which successfully and beautifully surrounds the room in the element, thereby satisfying both the client and the space.

While I was formerly known as The Feng Shui Detective, my feng shui practice is so integral to my design work I stopped using this title. It was too limiting. It’s every bit as fun to collaborate with other designers as it is to employ feng shui in my own interior design work. It’s a way of seeing the world and organizing space that makes perfect sense.

Thanks to longtime friends and talented colleagues Ward Welch and Erin Fearins of Studio SFW Interiors and Architecture for bringing me into this project. Thanks to David Masello for his words and Tim Lenz for his beautiful photographs, that not only capture the beauty but also the mood and energy.

No matter where you are in your journey, I’m here to help you realize your design goals. Transforming your space to support the way you live promotes healthy and balanced living. Don’t forget to follow along on Instagram for more fun and behind-the-scenes peeks into current projects.
